Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy surely missed to grab the opportunity to become the best ever chief minister of the Andhra Pradesh. People gave him a clear mandate by electing 2/3 of Congress candidates in 2004 Assembly elections. Congress Party high command for the first time game him a free hand in the political and administrative activities. These days, Andhra congress leadership cup board is empty without big leaders like Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy, Jalagam and Marri Chenna Reddy. YSR has no major rivals who can dethrone him with Delhi support. N. Janardhan Reddy, V.Hanumanta Rao and G.Venkataswamy are pale shadows of their past.
Major failures as chief minister:
1. Andhra people have never seen corruption of this magnitude in the recent memory. There is virtual collapse of administration without any responsibly in the state.
2. Andhra Pradesh high court never gave so many judgments against A.P Governments within such a short span.
3. Andhra Pradesh people never saw so many political murders with in the one year of this government formation.
4. Prestigious “JALA YAGNAM” (Irrigation projects) became “DHANA YAGNAM”. No one ever know when will these projects are going to complete?
5. He failed to utilize the regular monsoons with proper planning.
6. He gave unlimited support to corrupt politicians.
YSR’S major successes as administrator:
1. He will be remembered for ever in the Andhra history for suppressing Naxal movement in the state.
2. He brought IIT to the state.
3. He is developing KADAPA district as a model district.
4. He spent most of the money on irrigation projects.
5. In spite of problems, he is giving free power to the farmers.
6. Popular schemes that directly benefit poor people.
If Irrigation projects will be completed before 2009 assembly elections, he will again become chief minister of the Andhra Pradesh. Other wise, Congress may not get even 50 seats.
