After 25 years, an Andhra political leader takes on powerful Congress Party high command when it is in power. In 1984, Telugu Desam party founder, N.T. Rama Rao took on Indira Gandhi when Governor Ramlal dethroned him unconstitutionally. Indira Gandhi yielded to NTR as Andhra Pradesh people revolted against that decision.

 

After 25 year, young Congress leader, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy took on Sonia Gandhi. The following sentence in his open letter sent shock waves in Congress circles.

 

“Sonia Gandhi seems to be not interested in allowing Odarpu Yatra (consolation tour) in the current format. But, I want to condole them at their homes as per our traditional customs. So, I decided to continue with Odarpu Yatra.”

 

This is shocking news to Sonia Gandhi who is the most powerful leader in India at present and will take it seriously.

 

 

Why Jagan took this extreme step?

 

 

If Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has not taken this step, he might have been treated by Congress High command in the same way as it is now treating other chief Minister sons like Marri Sasidhar Reddy, Jalagam Prasada Rao and Kotla Suryaprakasa Reddy.

 

 

Jagan, who is the most popular leader in Andhra Pradesh as per recent survey, is not in a position to satisfy with a minister post/MP post. His Sakshi newspaper is the 12th largest read daily in India. So, he finally decided to live like a King even with a small kingdom.

 

 

He finally decided to take on Congress High command and he already knew about the failure of Reddy Congress. But, in these days of coalition politics, even 30-40 seats are enough to become a kingmaker if not king in Andhra Pradesh.

 

 

What steps Jagan may take?

 

 

1. He will use Sakshi newspaper and TV channel to spread his views and will directly take on Congress party in the state. He may say that I will fight till my last breath for implementation of YSR’s popular programmes.

 

2. He will strongly support “United Andhra Pradesh” as his base is very low in Telangana area. This is a crucial event in garnering support for Jagan in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema areas.

 

3. Reddy community may stand strongly behind him.

 

4. He may give more preference for new generation young leaders.

 

 

Implications of Jagan Yatra:

 

Congress High command will definitely take serious disciplinary action against Jagan to send strong message to other such leaders. But, Y.S. Jagan already prepared for such extraordinary actions. But, Jagan may not get support of more than 5-6 MLAs. So, he needs to start from zero for 2014 elections. According to media reports, Gali Janardhan Reddy of BJP is helping Jagan in the preparation of political strategies.

 

Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh may face no problems as Chiranjeevi’s PRP is ready to give support to Rosaiah Government.

 

 

Final verdict: If Y.S. Jagan can take astute political steps, he has bright future in coalition politics. It may be better for him to become high-command in his own party than ending up as a small leader in the Congress Party.
